Wetland Upgrades Coming Soon To Glenlee

The Sparrovale-Nubitj yoorree Wetlands & Conservation Reserve is poised to become a vibrant community engagement and tourism hub, thanks to the City of Greater Geelong’s 20-year master plan. This development aims to transform the wetlands into a world-class 500-hectare nature reserve right on Glenlee’s doorstep.

The master plan, which is separated into three phases will guide the conservation of the area, management of stormwater, and creation of open space. Recent efforts, including drainage improvements, pest control, and the protection of threatened species, have laid a strong foundation for this initiative.

The future plan includes establishing picnic areas, accessible walking paths, and elevated lookout points, making the reserve inviting for visitors. Enhancing connectivity, such as extending the Barwon River Trail and creating new access roads, will also further promote recreational use and attract tourists to the region. These developments will enrich the lifestyle of the Glenlee community, celebrating the area’s natural beauty while fostering environmental stewardship and cultural appreciation.

The Glenlee team look forward to seeing this project progress! Find out more about this exciting master plan below.
